PROBLEM
BioCubaFarma is a business group composed of 32 companies scattered throughout the geography of Cuba. It needed a business management system for the organization, to connect in terms of information from the UEBs to the Central Office with a strategic approach for the growth and consolidation of the industry, helping to achieve high standards demanded internationally in this high-tech sector. In 2016 ETI designed and developed a management system called GESI, whose objective was to achieve the integration of the information coming from the 7 main business areas (production, distribution, maintenance, economy, commercial, investments and human capital), homogenizing the data and allowing to know in real time the status of each process for accurate decision making.

BioCubaFarma is a sustainable, efficient and competitive business organization that researches, develops, produces and markets medicines, diagnostic systems, equipment and high-tech services, based on scientific and technical development, aimed at improving the health of the people, the generation of exportable goods and services and advanced technologies in food production.

TRACED OBJECTIVES
BioCubafarma is an industry whose productions are highly regulated, so the traceability of its processes is a requirement of the international Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), the traceability has to be demonstrated to guarantee the quality of the final product. With this objective to achieve and adding that the organization has a Virtual Private Network (VPN) that interconnects the 32 entities that compose it, with fiber optic links mostly between 6 Mb and 100 Mb. The scenario was very favorable for deploying cloud solutions.
SOLUTION
GESI's conception is based on developing a business intelligence platform located at the top of the business systems pyramid (figure 1) that feeds on the data extracted in real time from the transactional systems, these systems operate at the UEB level and manage the base processes such as commercial, logistics, production, economy and human capital. The information extracted from the 102 databases is cleaned, transformed and stored in a data warehouse, a part of this information feeds the transactional database of the management system or analysis layer as the beginning of the intermediate processes of OSDE management (figure 2). For example, processes such as planning, production control, material leveling and drug distribution.
The Information Technology Company (ETI) in 2016 designed and developed GESI, as part of a group of strategies aimed at computerization and digitization of processes. The solution was hosted in ETI's Data Center. The technological evolution and support of GESI is a combined work of 3 areas of technologies, demonstrating the use of the DevSecOps method, areas such as Development, Infrastructure and Cybersecurity. For 5 years, the high availability of the solution, the integrity and security of the data and the continuous improvement cycle have been guaranteed, incorporating the variations in the different business processes whenever required by the top management of Biocubafarma and aligned with the changes also oriented by the different governing bodies of the country. In addition, personalized support has been provided to the end user 24/7, which is essential for decision making at the management level.
In general terms, the impacts achieved are
- Efficiency in process management.
- Improvement in the quality of process information.
- Reduction of information delivery times.
- Quick access to information.
- Consolidation of business information.
- Information Security
